In a previous field season I collected fecal samples from nestling birds and froze them at -20 in glass vials. I have had difficulty extracting the DNA (very low yields of poor quality DNA) and I am considering trying another storage method this season. From reviewing the literature I have found:

- store at -20 in vials (as I did)

- store at -80 in vials

- store in ethanol and freeze (at -20)

- freeze in liquid nitrogen

I would very much appreciate any insights on the efficacy of each of these methods. Thank you.
