We are applying nano-nutrients as foliage application to the plants where particle should enter mainly through cuticle or stomata so we definitely need a particle size less than 40 nm or at the most below 100nm. But during manufacturing sometimes we are getting the nano-particles where particle size is less than 40nm but zeta potential value is very narrow may be 5-6 mV. In that case we need to encapsulate the particle so that zeta potential value may be beyond 30 to increase the stability of the particle for agricultural use. We are getting good results after encapsulating with oleic acid but particle size increasing beyond 100nm after coating to becoming nano-scale particle rather than nano-particle and unfit to use for agriculture as foliage application. Therefore, if anybody can suggest to any other compound to use as nano-particle encapsulation with negligible increase in particle size.
What is the active ingredient you are encapsulating? Is it aqueous based or solvent based or oil based?. If i have these basic informations, i shall suggest you a suitable medium for encapsulation. What is the method of encapsulation you are using. ? Is it physical or chemical or both
It is aqueous based and we may use both physical and chemical method but preferably physical attachment.
Please use PEG 80 and mix it using high shear mixer, say 3000 RPM. You may also use the other additives such as Oleic acid, Tween 20/80 and a solvent too.
O. K. we may try with PEG 80 and let you know the results. But I am afraid Tween 20/80 may denature our encapsulated protein.
are you sure that the 'nanonutrients' are taken up as particles and not through dissolution, with faster kinetics through increased interfacial area?
When we are following the nanoparticles after foliar application under full scan TEM, it was visible that they are entering well as particle and then moving through the cell sap and while moving they are triggering to the cell wall but they remains as particle which also confirms by EDX image we are getting. Moreover, TEM image in latter stage shows their accumulation in the vaccule.
