I am doing simulations for flow around 2D circular cylinder. I need instantaneous vorticity at each time step. Previously, I define instantaneous vorticity from fluent by custom field function defining dv/dx-du/dy. However, the plot shows the vorticity distribution is not right. Can you please suggest me another way to define vorticity in ansys fluent? Thanks!
The definition you used is correct, therefore if the vorticity field appears not correct the reasons could be due either to a wrong computed velocity field or to an error in the UDF that compute the vorticity.
Post also some figures to see the details. I suggest also to check the vorticity computation starting from a simple solution such as the Poiseulle flow.

Is your mesh refined enough to capture. Kindly do grid independence study before coming to any conclusion. I also agree Flippo that the definition is indeed correct.
Filippo Maria Denaro Abbas J Jubear I have refined the mesh and my vorticity magnitude which is built in function of matlab is good enough, however vorticity function which I defined by the above formula doesn't provide better results. The vorticity magnitude and vorticity is same(except sign convention) on most of the nodes, however, its different on few nodes. I do not know why it's different on other nodes. Can you please help me in that? I am attaching the files.
