We euthanize piglets which are having arthritis and any other chronic issues. We have non-penetrative captive bolt. What is the correct technique to hold the pig while applying the captive bolt?

Casey- Trot article is great and useful (Casey-Trott, T. M., Millman, S. T., Turner, P. V., Nykamp, S. G., & Widowski, T. M. (2013). Effectiveness of a nonpenetrating captive bolt for euthanasia of piglets less than 3 d of age. Journal of animal science, 91(11), 5477-5484).
I think, we are using the Zephyr- E captive bolt. I will double check today. My question is " how do we use it appropriately. I find the current method of holding the pig by the ears to apply the captive bolt negates the point that we have to be kind to the animals we deal with. Is there a better way to hold the pig for application?
Update for people who are interested: We are using the Zephyr- E captive bolt. No need to lift the piglet by the ear. Just keep a hand on the ear while the piglet is resting on the ground to stablize the head, and pull the trigger. Works perfectly fine.
