Have some recipes for preparing synthetic wastewater for a study on COD and anaerobic microbial oxidation. I want to know which chemical will serve as a good source of COD for metabolism.
And again, can you advise on chemicals that can help in microbial oxygen reduction in an aerobic environment.
I think this will be industry specific. Industrial wastewater is a very broad term. Which industry are you interested in?
As for "microbial oxygen reduction" there are a variety of chemical ways to remove oxygen from water (e.g. sodium sulphite) but, in my opinion, the most non-intrusive is to sparge the water with nitrogen or a nitrogen carbon dioxide mix.
I think you can try textile waste water and you can prepare synthetic waste water with dye easily and also to have. Higher COD you can prepare higher concentration about 500 pm. And. Try to never COD before and after the biological treatment and you will obtain shifter value and also you can measure BOD with COD to see the efficiency of microbial degradation.

As Mr. Newman stated "Industrial wastewater is a very broad term". So, what kind of wastewater we will treat will determine what type of recipe of wastewater we will prepare. To give an example, however, soluble starch is used as a carbon source in the preparation of high-load industrial wastewater (Especially for anaerobic treatment). Other components can be pepton, yeast extract, NH4Cl, KH2PO4, MgSO4, MnO, FeSO4, and micro elements generally. If you want to treat any kind of wastewater, you should adjust the KOI value accordingly. If you are working on a particular pollutant, you can make experimets by adding it. Nevertheless, remember to set up your experiment's control reactor.
Alan P Newman and Olcayto Keskinkan, am studying how efficient my technology (which involves both anaerobic and aerobic microbes) could treat COD in industrial wastewater. I know for the fact that its a very broad area, but some industrial as Mohamed Hassaan mentioned ( textiles, paper, food..) have lots of COD in their WW and those are my focus. Again I will also want to know the treatment efficiency in the presence of other pollutant. We are using this recipe; glucose 468.7 gL,KH2PO4 (4.4 g L), K2HPO4 (3.4 g L), NH4Cl (1.5 g L), MgCl2 (0.1 g L), CaCl2 (0.1 g L), KCl (0.1 g L), MnCl24H2O
(0.005 g L), and NaMo.O42H2O(0.001 g L). But I also want to know if some of them could be replaced.
Can anyone explain which chemicals could be adjusted to control the individual pollutants eg, as glucose concentration controls COD, Chlorides : Salts &TDS ....

Glucose is an organic compound that can be easily degraded especially by bacteria. Wastewater from industrial plants has hardly biodegradable compounds. For example, the textile industry is rich in starch-based wastes from desizing processes. So it would be more logical to use soluble starch instead of glucose. In fact, providing the original wastewater will be the best for you. If you can not provide it anyway, you can simulate original wastewater using various pollutants. For example, you can add dyes to synthetic wastewater for textile industry. A colleague of mine worked on the removal of anaerobic cyanide by adding cyanide to synthetic wastewater. Apart from these, we have tried to remove nitrobenzene and Bisphenol from synthetic wastewater by adding them to synthetic wastewater in certain concentrations. Therefore, you should first investigate the characteristics of industrial wastewater and prepare waste water accordingly.

As others have said, everything depends on the real wastewater that you are modelling. For wastewaters that have been through a biogas step first, my preferred substrate is acetate, because that is what is likely to still be in the wastewater by the time it gets to the stage I'm interested in. If the water is coming directly from the processes you mention, you may need something more complex.
Wastewater treatment cultures are essentially enrichment cultures and their development and behaviour is controlled by the conditions you set up, so factors such as pH are also important. For example, if the real waste is actually pH 4, there's no point in buffering your model system to pH 7. It'll produce all the wrong microorganisms and your results will only be relevant of the companies are willing to spend loads of money adjusting the pH of their wastewater..
It's worth taking a bit of time to look at the real systems that you're interested in so that you can tailor your experiments and make them relevant.

Hello. II'm working in a synthetic fracking wastewater and my source of COD firs source is guar gum. For an industrial synthetic wastewater you can use glucose, sorbitol, but mainly, it depends the kind of industry yor're working with.
