I think you need to clarify what you mean by 'better output'. Do you mean graphical/3D rendering, or charting? AutoCAD would be good for the former, whereas the latter might just be achieved with an Excel VBA macro.
I had the same problem some time ago and I ended up coding it myself ...
If you have any questions on how to do it or how to get a good starting point, feel free to ask! It is not to difficult to implement such a view - at least if you do not have to care about performance and you have basic programming skills.
But of course it depends on Paul Barrows question what you mean with 'better output'?
I use Surfdriver and 3D-Doctor software to measure and compare every kind of surfaces. You can do whatever you want to do. I hope you make it better with them.
