What is the best software to model a thermal system, when there is a complex interplay of all heat transfer modes. For instance, solar thermal collectors and PVT collectors involve all heat transfer modes and fluid flow. I have seen different researchers use different software such as ANSYS, COMSOL and TRNSYS.
ANSYS, COSMOS are the best analyzing software. Use Multi-physics. If you want the theoretical in-depth prefer MATLAB.
Dont go for Nastran, abaqus etc,
All usual commercial codes (ANSYS, COMSOL, TRNSYS, .....can do thermal system simulation and analysis....with different precision depending on the complexity of your problem (complex geometry, complex fluids, convection+radiation......)....I think the best software is the one you develop using your own language (C++, Fortran, Matlab,...) or using an opensource code (open-foam?) ...or if you have moving boundaries then shift to meshfree methods...
