Rose benga is in the disodium salt form and in its structure there is a benzene ring with chlorine atoms,I was wondering if the link can be formed there.
I'm not sure what you want to achieve. Selectivity seems difficult given the number of Cl and I atoms bonded to aromatic rings. In theory you could do an SNAr on the chlorine ortho/para, probably the ortho being favored, to the carboxylate group. I'm thinking maybe an amine in basic conditions (carbonate or TEA) in a polar aprotic solvent like NMP or DMSO. You may have to esterify the carboxylic acid, can't be sure of that. Example 7 is the most similar to your case I could find.
