we are looking to purchase new backpack electrofishing units and would like to know your thoughts about what is the best product available on the market. We are currently looking at Smith-Root LR-24 units. Do you have any other suggestions?

Il n'y a malheureusement pas beaucoup de compétition dans le domaine et c'est pas trop le genre de truc que j'aurais le gout de bricoler à la main, question de sécurité et de standardisation. J'aime bien la LR-24 de S-R, c'est ce qu'on a chez Daniel et les batteries, elles, peuvent se faire maison assez facilement :-)
La seule autre compagnie que je connais est Halltech: http://www.halltechaquatic.com/backpack-electrofisher/37.html Un peu moins cher, mais par contre, à ce que je sache, leur modèle permet moins de réglage. Le principal défaut est qu'on ne peut pas avoir le wattage directement sur la machine, qui est souvent un paramètre qu'on veut garder constant parce que ça affecte l'efficacité de la pêche.

I completed a quote for backpack e-fishers and the LR-24 by Smith-root was well reviewed. I've used older models of others and have had issues with electrical issues (to the point of having a fire on my back). The LR-24 is expensive but is worth it!

If case you are still interested, we have an LR-24 and its about 8 or 9 years old. We have only had it serviced once. It has been a good machine and dependable.

I'm very late but in Italy it's pretty common the ELT 60 II 1300 Watt provided by Scubla S.r.l., it's an all-round and durable tool...I may say it worth the price.
