Hi All,

I'm currently developing a research proposal to explore the relationship between Need for Cognition and Subjective memory using the NCS and MMQ.

My hypotheses are

H1: A significant positive correlation between total NCS and MMQ-Contentment scores (2-tailed)

H2: A significant positive correlation between total NCS and MMQ-Ability scores (2-tailed)

H3: A significant correlation between total NCS and MMQ-Strategy scores (2-tailed)

I've been given conflicting advice as to whether they should be one or two-tailed. The factor analyses I've come across state MMQ-Contentment and MMQ-Ability are strongly correlated with eachother, whilst both are not/negatively correlated with MMQ-Strategy, (Troyer & Rich, 2002) (van der Werf & Vos, 2011). However, I have not found any studies explicitly associating MMQ and NCS so feel 2-tailed is best. Can anyone share their views?

I planned to use a Pearsons correlation to test each of these hypotheses (which I understand corresponds to a bivariate normal model in G*Power) however, have been told this is too simple and I should consider incorporating age or gender.

I would really appreciate input on 1. Whether Pearsons is appropriate in this case? 2. Is a bivariate normal model in G*Power correct for Pearsons? 3. What would be the appropriate test(s) if I decide to incorporate age?
