I want to label forebrain neurons so as to trace specific (multiple) circuits. We have used AAV2/8/9 in our lab so far, and they have been pretty good. AAV-DJ seems to have more infectivity rates according to current reports. Is there any other significant advantage/disadvantage of using this vector? I might have to use the transfected animals for behaviors too. Has anyone used it for a similar purpose and can comment on how their experience was with this hybrid vector?
Hi Praachi, In general, DJ serotype should also have a broader host range, meaning higher risk of off target effects, which counts as a disadvantage in in vivo applications. You might want to just stick with AAV2/8/9, as long as you have acceptable transduction rates with it.
