I Have been working on graphene oxide synthesis using modified hummers method. At first until 3rd attempt, the colour of my final product are black. I thought It is THE graphene oxide because the one that I commercially bought (graphene oxide flake) about the same colour (black). I didn't control the temperature and let it exceed 98 degree celcius because i thought it doesnt matter.it is also quite hard to control the temperature with limited apparatus. :P

Then... However, at recent attempt, i got yellowish colour which I did by control the temperature

I come across some journals mentioned that the colour of the product should be yellowish.

There are some questions that keep tingling me until now. please help me.

1) What was happened when temperature exceed 98 degree? that make it to turn black. Is the production of graphene oxide considered successful?

2) Is the temperature exceed 98 degree make the graphene oxide reduced?

3) What is the colour of graphene oxide?
