I am trying to building some microchannel devices currently to culture neurons, but I want to know the initial size(diameter) of the rat hippocampus cells (before they formed the axon and dendride), does anyone know that?
The hippocampus has many different regions (e.g. dentate gyrus, hilus, CA3,2 and 1, subiculum) and different cell types (e.g. excitatory versus inhibitory) so there isn't really any single type you could call a "hippocampus cell." I do not work with cultured neurons and cannot give you a good estimate of their size, but in hippocampal brain slices a CA1 pyramidal neuron cell body is about 15 um wide and about twice that in length.
