according to my knowledge novelty in research article means new observation/result /thing which strike the quality of research/experiment. you can say whats new outcomes in your research article. it is a statement that claims to be factual and scientific.
i am following and waiting for best answer from someone
Notwithstanding artificial intelligence, knowledge is intrinsically linked to people and may therefore be individual and/or collective; in organizational terms, it is generally thought of as being know-how, applied information, information with judgment, or the capacity for effective action. One challenge of knowledge discovery is to identify patterns that are interesting, usually with novelty being an important component of interest; that said, another important aspect of knowledge discovery is more efficient use of earlier knowledge—there is novelty in doing that too.
Novelty (derived from Latin word novus for "new") is the quality of being new, or following from that, of being striking, original or unusual. Novelty may be the shared experience of a new cultural phenomenon or the subjective perception of an individual.
Dr. Tahir: Thanks for your explanation that novelty refers to new outcomes from your research.
Dr. Serrat: Thanks, yep artificial intelligence is certainly an interesting topic, and I agree with you that even better utilization of previous work is also counted as novelty.
Dr. Jabbar: Thanks for your contribution, I will check it.
Dr. Mahdi: Agree, Definitely an interesting topic.
Dr. Salih: Thank you so much for your comments. I agree with you state of being new, different and entertaining for audience.
Since the previous answers already provide definitions of novelty, here I add my advice to students about coming up with novel ideas for a research project (not an exhaustive list, but a way to give students some inspiration). The examples are from the field of Neurolinguistics.
Some ways to achieve novelty in neurolinguistics studies:
Novelty based on the language - you can replicate a study in your own language, or another language, or contrast languages with an interesting linguistic contrast as relates to your research question.
Novelty because you address limitations of prior literature, since you improve some aspect of experimental control.
Novelty based on the stimuli - you may use a different task/stimuli/modality to test a similar phenomenon. You should explain why it is interesting to use different stimuli. E.g., does the hypothesis X also apply to psychological verbs? Or another kind of verb? Does it stand when verbs are used as single words/sentences or in a different modality?
Novelty based on the studied population - say you are interested on a hypothesis that relates to processes that depend on the anterior temporal lobes, and there is research from post-stroke aphasia and from primary progressive aphasia. And you know that herpes encephalitis disproportionally affects the anterior temporal lobe, so you may decide to test the hypothesis in this less studied population.
Novelty based on the measure - do the findings of study XXX still stand if accuracy is measured taking into account only morphological errors? Only semantic errors? If using reaction times? If using looking times?
Novelty based on concept - coming up with an entirely new theoretical hypothesis. Usually involves a lot of prior observation or a systematic review of literature.
About all of the above: don't just propose to do something in a given way because it has not been done before. The novel aspect should be incorporated in your design because it can add new theoretical insight. This theoretical insight should be described clearly in research proposals.
Novelty is a state of being unique in your research, for example new methodology or new design that could lead to new knowledge or add something new to the existing knowledge. I think giving some contradictions to the previously published works could be novelty as well. However, this contradiction should be backed by strong and reliable points.
Novelty of the research refers to one or elements that are new in the research, including new methodology or new observation which leads to a new knowledge discovery. A novelty might contribute to scientific progress, as stated by the Philosopher, Imre Lakatos, that good research programs are “progressive”. The novelty of the research and research impact can be a strategic way to engage the attention of the readers in a research paper. The essence of novelty of the obtained results of the research needs to be connected with their importance for science as well as with practical importance. For finding novelty in area of research, researchers need to conduct a thorough literature review to find out what is studied and what are the gaps which need to be clarified. This literature review depend on in-depth knowledge of the field. Researchers should compare and link their work with other previous research. Many high impact journals will tend to prioritize choosing to publish novel articles. With a large amount of research and rapid scientific development, it becomes a challenge and pressure for some researchers to produce innovative and relevant research.
