modified SDS - what is it?
compares sonication procedure with phase inversion process - could only mean emulsification after melting the wax and then cooling to obtain a wax dispersion, i.e. suspension. Producing only large droplets at low shear will result in large wax particles after cooling.
It does not produce wax nanoemulsion - dispersed phase is solid not liquid - nanosuspension

Maybe they just mean that it is a modification of a pre-existing SDS-PIT method for etc. It may be that you need the full paper to find out what is it that they do.
Word 'modified' has relation to the phase inversion temperature (PIT) method, I suspect. Cloud point of ethoxylated nonionics and PIT too are highly affected by additives of anionic surfactants, like SDS.
From the now available paper it turns out that they do not used 'modified' SDS but SDS as received (no nonionic surfactant mentioned). And they did not compared emulsification with PIT - emulsion phase inversion method but compared sonication with stirrer. Emulsion phase inversion is meant from emulsion to suspension. Not surprisingly sonication results in smaller wax particles than conventional stirrer.
