Metal film resistors are those resistors which made by depositing metal film on an insulated substance like glass or ceramic. Required exact value of resistance can be achieved by trimming the layer thickness or by cutting helical grooves of suitable pitch along its length. Contact caps are fitted on both ends of the resistor and lead terminals are welded on these caps. The main advantages of a metal film resistor, are 1) - they can be made for very high value of resistance up to 10000 MΩ and 2) - they are very small in size. Their tolerance level is about 1%, which is quite good value. These resistors are quite equitable for numerous high-grade applications such as in low-level stages of certain instruments.
