3D printing technology together with foot scanners and/or 3D models derived from foot pictures taken with smartphone apps can be used to provide customized orthotics to a patient/customer within a few days. So far, I know about only one practical application, by SOLS.

However, this technology is being used in other areas - to speed up innovation in sports shoes, and in fashion industry.

So, what is impeding a faster market uptake in orthopaedics?
