Strictly, myths concern gods or divine figures, legends human causation. So a myth that survives is one that contains gods unless that god is believed in. Ahmed, certainly that is the usual definition. So if a story has Zeus performing a deed or Apollo, usually in relationships with heroes and kings, that is a myth. Your explanation is a more modern but specifically incorrect interpretation. A myth has little basis in reality. We accept no Zeus threw bolts. But marvellous deeds might be connected to mortals-legends.

Who, in the modern world, believes that Opollo is deity? I still say that it is absurd to associate myths eith religions, any religion. It is simply unacceptable idea that wouldn't appeal, not even, to an agnostic individual.

Ahmed, we can go on forever on this matter but that was the original and still largely accepted interpretation. Myth used now means more often falsehood or unreliable but the interpretations I gave are still employed in academia. Specifically Classics.

But we're all familiar with professed believers who are hypocrites or deluded, so even opinion polls and denominational records don't give us the actual story. Moreover, when people cite such percentages they often include professed believers that, in another context, they will disavow as not being "true" representatives of the faith.
