I see that most of your questions are practical questions which are in need of theoretical explanation.
so, according to your question, lets split the answer in two ways,
1) contact with aliens will actually help to prove a lot of theories and it will also help us correlate the evolutionary advancement we have attained. also, we can get introduced to the technologies which might be a solution for a lot of problems we face in our daily life. for example, lets take one of the best evergreen problem, Ozone layer depletion. so, this not only gives us access to technologies but also gives us knowledge using which we can build our own high techs.
2) another way of seeing this question,
Psychologically speaking, lets say you are in a room for 10 days straight with nobody else. suddenly you hear a footstep near the door. what would you do ? an average human would either hide and never look that side, or would go and check who is there. that basically what we have been doing. earth is our home and we have colonized this area for quite a long time all alone. i think its the mentality of the human mind to do all this things. " Curiosity " The only thing that lead our civilization to reach this level. The same curiosity is the driving force that makes us to check the possible life forms around this universe or multiverse as some physicists would like to refer..!!

2) There is no evidence of exuberant extraterrestrial life - Fermi's 'paradox' - there may well be an abundance of lichens in the cosmos, but within our window of existence, in our 'shell' of detection, there are no obvious civilizations who have discovered over-the-horizon radars and similarly bright RF sources.
3) Any benefit depends on how they present themselves, and what stage they are at.
The discovery of bacteria under the icy crust of Europa alters our world view minimally.
The discovery of a large black monolith 5m under the lunar regolith would be a significant destabilizer - contact between races on Earth with different technology levels tends to work out poorly. It is possible that more benign entities exist - but we could well do harm to ourselves upon the discovery of nearby weakly-godlike entities.
The question seems trivial considering that any species in the same or any other universe participates in the one (!) Consciousness.
In other words, ”aliens“ exist everywhere respectively nowhere.

A mutual benefit for me could be end the Chavista plague Prof. Kittichai Jookjantra . Dear Prof. Jean Thill , consciousness doesn´t exist for chavistas plague, they don´t have soul. Chavistas have neither conscience nor forgiveness of God, they arrive before Sumerians on earth.
I'm just being pragmatic in my answer, looking for any method that definitely ends this nightmare. I have a hopeless sense that our situation is so bad as to be impossible to deal with, so I might guess that aliens are very welcome to help, since we are not able to deal with chavistas.
