I have a groundwater chemistry dataset with Ammonia-N, Calcium, Magnesium, Nitrate-Nitrite, Chloride, Hardness, and Sulfate. I don't have all the ions I need to make a piper diagram but it seems like I can make a stiff plot to compare different sites water and look at possible groundwater flow paths. Any suggestions on the best way to pair these parameters?
As long as you plot the cations on the left and the anions on the right and you use the same ions for all the samples, you could use Ca, Mg, Cl, SO4, indicating that you only used these data points. The key is that you are able to compare results. Why don’t you use Schoeller instead and leave out what you don’t have and add what you have? Or multivariate statistics. Did you try to use PHREEQC to calculate potentially missing ions?
Agreed with Christian Wolkersdorfer, However good published literature available for Stiff diagrams.
Sir only needs to be the stiff diagram plot for major ions and use for aquacum and workbench software.

I'll have to look up what the Schoeller method is I haven't used this before. Do you have a good link or paper to read about this? I don't have access to any software so I wrote the code in python for making stiff plots. Any other calculations for missing ions I would have to write my own code for.

Many hydrogeology tools have a Schoeller diagram included and you can find a loot of literature by using the search engine of your choice. Does that help?
