Hello everyone. I am initiating a project to model urban runoff flows into detention basins and then to also include groundwater recharge and evaporation from those basins. I live in a semi-arid region, and so evaporation is especially important.
I have pretty well decided that MIKE SHE would be a good option to examine particular events from the rainy season, but I need to learn it quickly and efficiently. Does anyone have any good advice for this? Has anyone used MIKE SHE extensively and could give me some specific help for becoming proficient on the software? I have used a few other hydrologic and hydrodynamic models before, but I have never used a DHI model.
Any help (no matter how small) is welcome.

When you install Mike She it comes with an example (and a manual for that) you can run. There is also a version that is able to run in demo mode if you want to assess the model before buying. That should be a valuable starting point for learning the model. It is called the "Karup_Example" - Karup is a river catchment in Denmark.

Nathan--interesting direction from you previous research. I had to learn how to use HSPF (another watershed model you could certainly use for this project). I expect it will take a while (months) to learn any model (Mike She, HSPF, SWAT) if you don't have a lot of background in hydrology. If you are interested in HSPF I can help you understand how it works. I have my own software package for running it in Python (don't know if you have any background in this subject). Best of luck.

Thanks for the comments everyone. And yes, David, this will be a slightly different direction for my research. The water issues are different out on the High Plains as compared to the Gulf Coast. And Guy, I will be using that forum. I was hoping there were some helpful resources out there like that.
