I have increased side cutting edge angle in an Ap 15 30 45 60 and I got different trends from mathematical model and cutting experiments.So I want to know the actual physics of trend of cutting force with respect to increase in side cutting edge angle.
The main cutting force (along the cutting velocity vector) in orthogonal machining of ductile material is a function of chip load (multiplication of feed and depth of cut), the strength of the work material (quite often termed as dynamic yield shear strength), orthogonal rake angle and chip reduction coefficient (ratio of chip thickness to uncut chip thickness).
In ISO designation side cutting edge angle (SCEA) is not used. Instead, the principal or major cutting edge angle(PCEA) is used. PCEA=90-SECA. Thus as the SCEA increases, the PCEA decreases.
The uncut chip thickness is related to PCEA. It decreases as the PCEA decreases. Any reduction is uncut chip thickness typically leads to an increase in chip reduction coefficient and dynamic yield shear strength. Thus it is expected that with a decrease in PCEA, the main cutting force would not remain unchanged. It would tend to increase marginally.
