We have been working on a novel technique called Pictorial-Elaboration-Technique (PET) for a while to enhance EFL learners speaking skills in various levels. Learners (about 261 participants; 159 experimental group and 102 control group) are exposed to multiple pictures every sessions and are asked to ponder over them and describe them as much as possible. In the meanwhile, teachers are supposed to guide and elicit information from pictures if the learners are deviated. I'd like to know your informative and constructive attitudes toward the technique.
I think that pictorial elaboration can be very useful because it makes learning more natural and less of a memorization process.
I do not know about your country, but in America, parents read to young children from books that have carefully-selected "easy" text, along with illustrations to show the action described by the words.
I have used the term "organic language learning" to describe the process of learning naturally, like children do. I think that pictorial elaboration, that is appropriate to the age of the learner, can be part of this. See:

Pictures are like live demonstration of the printed words.children generally don't possess one hand experience of the printed words.Pictures make them realize this experience and also clear all doubts regarding unknown vocabulary.
Pictures also arouse curiosity which finally lead them to learn and to know detailed information of text.

Most language teaching techniques are used to provide an analytic resource for the learners that activates the left hemisphere. However, pictures help learners to use the potential energies of the right hemisphere in the process of learning. I think your prediction about improvement in the speaking skill of the learners would be actualized.

Hello! I don't know much about this new technique used with narrating novels: Pictorial-Elaboration-Technique (PET) . But I think -in general -that any learning or teaching activities/techniques that draw on the use of pictures as illustrations will be useful. You're using a comparative -experimental design which is quite appropriate for your specific purposes. After collecting and analysing data based on your experiment, and after employing T-TEST, I recommend conducting a GAIN RATIO (a statistical procedure that would help you to identify the amount of benefit or positive difference the intervention has made with the EXPERIMENTAL group). This would be a good way to do it. Good luck.
