Pandemic for Covid-19 has huge impact on life but social distancing and house confinament also. In Argentine there is mix of two effects: pandemic and confinaments. How do you interpret consequences of both events?
Professor, I stay in Salt Lake City. It is a planned city, situated just 5 kilometres from the heart of Kolkata. Kolkata is the third largest city of India. It is called the cultural capital of India and is also one of the most important business hubs in the country.
Salt Lake City is the V.I.P. zone of Kolkata. The elite class stays here. They all have beautiful house properties, costly cars, a lot of money, comfort, pleasure and greatness associated with their lives. But still when I visit the local markets, I see that there is a lack of demand for every type of commodity. Whenever the shopkeepers see a customer, they are literally begging to the prospective customer to purchase something from them.
I was extremely surprised to see this. After a detailed study I reached a conclusion. India experienced the largest lock down on earth for almost 70 days from 22 March to June, 2020. This lock down has broken the social spinal cord of the country. It has punched the confidence level of the nation. This COVID-19 pandemic in terms of its magnitude can be comparable to the partition of the nation. It is because that partition in 1947 also devastated the confidence of India.
In India, I think the biggest consequence of this pandemic and social confinement is the shattering of the confidence level. Probably the same is also applicable for the world.
First of all can you say that what's the meaning of "Confinament"? Is it Catalan translation of English word "Confinement"?
Now then, i am coming to your question. I don't know about High income countries. But here in Bangladesh Pandemic and Confinement affects all classes of the society. Confinement is a usual consequence of this devastating pandemic and it affects different classes differently. Higher income group could continue their office from home, so it didn't affect their financial status but left them with psychological distress. On the flip side, lower income group mostly suffered from economic disaster, but surprisingly they remain careless & fearless about the COVID catastrophe. Quite interesting !!
