I am currently doing a 2d pushover analysis of a simple RC frame ( fiber section ). I am just following the example in the opensees wiki. The model worked fine in gravity loads. However, upon running the pushover analysis, this error came up :
Large trial compressive strain
UniaxialMaterial : : setTrial() - material failed in setTrialStrain()
What does this mean and how can I solve this issue? attached herewith are my tcl model and a screenshot of the errors.
Hi Kay. I am not sure about the error. But it seems the strain value is exceeding its limiting value. I found a similar discussion in this following link. You can have a look.

Hi, I try to debug the program you uploaded. It shows the same error.
I find that the error is mainly caused the tcl file Ex5.Frame2D.analyze.Static.Push file. Your model is a 2D model, however, the "push" loadiing pattern is a 3D way.
"load $nodeID $Fi 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0"
Therefore, the error occured.
Maybe you can try to debug the programs one by one. Firstly, you can run the ThreeStorey_CIP_Rev.tcl. Then, run the whole program.
Alternatively, you can debug the programs in Visual Studio, in the figure below. In this way, a clearer explanation on the error or warning is given.
