As more states in the US expand pharmacist prescriptive authority, just curious as to what others think or have seen out there. I am familiar with most of the ailments in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and other states that have expanded this, but want to gather some thoughts or studies on other disease states and or minor ailments.
In India role of pharmacist is very limited in terms of prescribing medicines. God knows when the conditions will improve.....here any thing can be sold without prescription. No clear cut rules for medicines and otc products. Self medication is very high.
In Serbia, OTC products can only be purchased at the pharmacy. Additionally, patients can ask for specific advices from their pharmacists related to certain health problems (symptoms), while pharmacists can recommend to patients to use certain non-prescription (OTC) products, and they can also refer patients to their physicians if they consider reported symptoms are suggestive of more serious condition.
