I'm working on carbonatite rock samples to determine the major oxides and minor elements using XRF (Rigaku). I measured the LOI using 500 degree (for 1 hr) after oven and then 900 degree (for 2 hrs) temperatures. After the analyses using the compressed pellets (powder) the total for major oxides plus the LOI for most of the samples range from 80 wt% to 96 wt%. On the other hand, few of the sample add up 102 or above. I also addes the F, BaO, SrO, and the Lanthanide oxides (La, Ce, Nd, and Pr) still not adding to 100 or close to that. What should I do to improve total?
