In an attempt to encapsulate Rhodamine B in a silica nanoparticle, I observed an unusual emission spectra with multiple peaks within 450 and 700nm. The excitation spectra also show a red shift of about 72nm. if I excite at any wavelength my emission spectra was observed at the same excitation wavelength. I need help on what could be responsible for this phenomenon and how can I correct it
have you tried to check if the instrument is working fine...maybe try the rhodamine dye itself and check
Thanks.. I encapsulated Rhodamine B into silica nanoparticle using a W/O reverse emulsion method.. the dye was linked with APTES to reduce dye leakage. The rhodamine B-silane monomer was hydrolysed and condensed with TEOS to form the dye doped silica nanoparticle... The UV-absorption spectra of the nanoparticle do not show any form of aggregation but the fluorescence emission spectra of the rhodamine B encapsulated nanoparticle was completely different relative to free rhodamine B. with 3 characteristic peaks. the instrument is working fine, I observed this abnormality with the nanoparticles only. I need expertise advice pls.
