In cu-based shape memory alloys, some alloys have a much higher transformation temperatures while others have a very low transformation temperatures down to negative, what are reasons behind this?!!!
The concentration of the constituents of the alloy has the greatest influence.
The effect is in a very narrow concentration range.
In addition, the magnitude of the deformation (through the load) during the "charging" of the sample also plays a role.
Generally, the following are the significant factors affecting shape memory alloys' transformation temperatures.
1. Alloy composition (e/a ratio, valance electron concentration, atomic size)
2. Thermomechanical treatments (Annealing, hot/cold deformation, aging)
3. Grain size
4. Defect density.
