i have successfully extracted the Hydroxyapatite from Bovine bone. The new challenge is what casting methods can i employ to cast samples of Human tooth (Molar, Premolar, Incisors and Canine).
How do i go about the Moulding process and the pattern
Hello Baruwa. I suggest you discuss with Engr. Awojobi. The melting temperature of the material is high 1670C. You may have to consider sintering. Who is your supervisor?
Determine the amount of volumetric shrinkage of the HA after firing. Then make patterns of the teeth or implants from RTV silicone rubber and expand the patterns with solvents to swell the silicone. We used methyl methacrylate (dissolves silicone completely) and a crosslinking monomer like ethylene glycol dimethacrylate or other acrylate which will not dissolve the silicone. Then control the swelling by different proportions of the solvents until the right amount is achieved. We used 20% expansion for Al2O3. Then use a phosphate-bonded investment to slip cast the patterns with HA and fire at the appropriate temperature. Unpublished technique.
