Normally, Al/CNT composite (especially nano-scaled) made by means of powder metallurgy contains CNT undesired agglomerates. Hot extrusion applied to such a material should cause a microstructural rearrangement resulting also in agglomerates' breakage and then in more homogeneous reinforcement dispersion in metal matrix. I would recommend even a number of extrusion passes in order to improve the homogeneity as better as possible by this route.
thank you for question. First of all, it is important for us to know what hot extrusion does? Basically , hot extrusion is done in order to get homogeneous mixture of reinforcement with the matrix which means the porosity will be as low as
Thank You Alexander Katz-Demyanetz Sir for your valuable answer. Agglomeration can affect the properties and no. of passes is an good idea. Thanks for your time.
Thanks Saif Wakeel, Orewan mechanism will be helpful for justification of results.
I think that It's not possible to have a homogenous composite by hot extrusion process only. It's possible by using severe plastic deformation methods such as ECAP or HPT and etc. because of these methods high shear stress applying, the CNT particles can be sliced and dispersed homogeneously
