I want a beginner friendly book about the process of adapting and validating a scale or health measurement for psychology. If I plan to do a scale validation as a dissertation project, what should I start reading about? Thanks!
I think this book that Di Silvestre suggested is a very good one.
I also recommend as a good example of validation work is Almeida et al. (2021). Very well written and different strategies applied. Maybe the theme is not what you are looking for, but the steps followed are very interesting.
Another source that I use to work with is Norbert Schwarz. I have a quite old chapter that I use to work in class that could help also (bellow).
On cross-cultural validation, I liked another book, Smith et al. 2013. It may help.
as you want to adapt a scale, this would be my suggestion, as it covers all possibilities of doing so way beyond cross-cultural:
Hambleton, Merenda & Spielberger: Adapting educational and psychological tests for cross cultural assessment.
For the validation - on top of the suggested Streiner & Norman book - you might want to look at Furr & Baccharach: Psychometrics - an introduction (very good teaching book)
