How can I get a smooth XRD pattern of nano sized powder. I am using BRUKER D8 advance with a step size of 0.002 and with rotation of 15RPM with 2theta ranging between 10 deg and 90 deg. But what I observed is that the pattern is not smooth.
The diffraction intensity of nanoparticles is weak; therefore, if you have a small fraction of much larger particles, they will stand out in the XRD pattern and give you a spotty pattern.
Noisy spectra are due to small amount of counts in your diffractograms.
So increase your
a) tube current (if possible), increase of voltage is not that effective if you have taken the recommended one.
b) your amount of sample material (if possible; 'nano sized powder sample' sounds that you have got only very litte amount of material),
c) your local measurement time per angular step (if possible); (measurement time is already adressed above by Chandra Bhanu Basak)
You may in addition perform repeated measurements and add your diffractograms in order to have better counting statistics.
Please have a look at the attached link. There the aspect of smoothing by software is discussed a little bit. However the general opinion is to retain from software smoothing.
