I did the confirmatory factor analysis of the questionnaire. If in each subscale I select the questions that have the highest factor load and I consider these questions as a short version and do other steps to verify the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, is this the correct way?
by doing exploratory factor analysis, I have less sub scale in comparison with sub scales in the long-form questionnaire.

A lot depends on how many you items you have. In particular, if you want to preserve each sub scale, that will require multiple items per subscale. Did you specify a two-level solution for your CFA, so it included the subscales?
Dear Dr David L Morgan I developed a 100-question questionnaire with ten components. In the confirmatory factor analysis after removing undesirable questions, there are 76 questions left. Now I'm going to develop a short version of the questionnaire. Can I use the Factor Load Table of confirmatory factor analysis? Or should I do an exploratory factor analysis?
Can anyone recommend a research paper pr chapter detailing best practice for developing a short version of an exusting scale we have developed?
