- Allergan reports the 2-year cumulative incidence of local complications and other adverse outcomes as follows:
Reoperation. 6.5 percent for silicone gel-filled breast implant participants and 4.5 percent for saline breast implant participants.
Rupture. 0.5 percent for silicone gel-filled breast implant participants and 2.5 percent for saline breast implant participants (saline implant deflation).
Capsular Contracture (Grades III/IV). 5.0 percent for silicone gel-filled breast implant participants and 2.8 percent for saline breast implant participants.
Implant removal with or without replacement. 3.4 percent for silicone gel-filled breast implant participants and 2.4 percent for saline breast implant participants.
Mentor reports the 3-year cumulative incidence of local complications and other adverse outcomes for silicone gel-filled breast implant recipients as follows:
. I fully endorse the views expressed by Dr David Sena as above. Practically speaking incidence of capsular contracture is higher with silicone gel implants and incidence of rupture is more with saline implants. So use saline implants where tissue expansion is desired and saline +silicone gel implants for breast augmentation.
