Abstract : Glomus etunicatum and G. manihotis were multiplied with cucumber as host plant using a hydroponic culture system. One of 2 tested types of rockwool was found to be a suitable medium for inoculum production, giving high rates of infection as well as intensive sporulation.

You could use a simple system based on natural polysaccharide(s), for example sodium alginate, in lab conditions (Petri dishes) or scaled-up (in large volume flasks).

There are many techniques like

1. Most common - Pot culture

2. Trap culture (to  purify it)

3. Aeroponic

4. Hydroponic

5. Semi-hydroponic

6. Root Organ Culture

All is having there own pros and cons but pot culture with expanded clay is most ideal for abiotic stress studies. You can opt the host of your choice and VAM too of your region. since it is omnipresent. for reference you can do a through literature survey.

We are using soil solarisation technique under arid soils to get AM infected fields. We found that Pearl millet, maize and Cenchurus ciliaris are the best host plants for AM multiplication. The most important thing you have to remember is, the field should be covered with crops throughout the year. Sometimes, agri-horti and silvi-pastural condition are supports this as some of the trees like Prosopis, Zizyphus, Pomegranate as well as grasses like Cenchurus ciliaruis, Lasuirus sindicus are the good host for AM fungi.
