It's probable that with a small tutorial class of about 25 students, we know them by name. We also know who are the V, A and K learners. But if it's a large class, in what practical ways we can cater to their different preferences?
I have always classes over 300 students. I can teach just theoretical knowledge in the auditorium for these students. I make a survey at the first week what kind of categories they interested for. The winner categories are same what I planed to teach before the semester.
Hi Miranda, I have some survey with large classroom. I tried to see how I could help for these students to understand the learning material easier:

Dear Miranda Yeoh, Naturally, its difficult to manage the class of size 250+. Further, in courses where you have laboratory work then it makes more difficult. Usually, in such cases what usually Professors are doing they give lectures and then divide them in small groups. These groups are handled by teaching assistants and supported by graders.
I think we should not call a large no. of students such as 250 as a large lecture class rather we can name it as large audience listening to a lecture because teaching can not be and is not imparted in such huge groups according to principles of teaching learning . However if such a situation arises at all then session could be divided. In first place information or teaching can be imparted as per learning requirement then class can be divided in to groups and subgroups with the selected llearners as group leaders and rapportears and a teacher facilitator for two or more groups assisting in brain storming in the context of the related session and then making the rapporrtears to report and mentors to reflect

Hi friends, in my college a large lecture group is about 250 students, comprising 10 tutorial groups of 25. We have 3 modes to teach science: lecture, tutorial and practical. Interacting with a tutorial or practical class of 25 is easy and comfortable because I can get to remember their names in a few weeks. But teaching a lecture class of 250 is not the same. That's why I asked this question. Thanks for your ideas :)
We donot only have to focus on the names of learners but teaching learning transactions,, level of learning individual differences,, ,rate of learning and level of understanding, interacting ,participation, reflecting and motivation etc
Hello friends, thanks for all your views. Tomorrow, my lecture class will be observed by my Deputy Director. Even with a large class, the lecture has to be interactive. 3 years ago, I was also observed and then to my surprise, I got a promotion. Thanks be to God for his mercies! Thanks also to you all who have shared your ideas and wisdom. I will keep in touch on the RG platform.
