I am looking for some application of Titanium nitride (TiN) nanoparticles. What are the possible applications of the TiN nanopartciles?
TiN can be used as a coating agent in hard thin films to improve their hardness. Nanolayer of TiN can be used as a binder to increase reaction kinetics. Moreover, it has high absorption of light which makes it appropriate for solar cell.
If you are interested in biomaterials field, there is a hot topic for TiN NPs in this field. these NPs were used in PET plastic as an additive, and they have vast applications in food packaging industry. Nowadays, there is a concern about safety of these NPs in food industry which can be a practical research topic for you.

TiN can also be used as anticorrosive coating in reinforced concrete, that was one of the topic I developed in my doctoral thesis. :-) TiN thin film contribute to develop adhesive phases to improve protection against corrosion.
If you incorporate the particles to polymeric matrixes, they will surely help to improve mechanical performance of the final parts and even be useful for incorporating special functionalities to devices, such as pressure sensing properties, as happens with some piezoelectric ceramic-polymeric composites and with quantum tunnelling composites.
It is also can be used as a catalyst support for Pt NPs. The application is for catalyst of low temperature fuel cell.
Pt/TiN shows better acid resistance than Pt/C.
Better to try Cyclic voltametry. Can be used as catalyst for fuel cell. Replacing platinum

there are different possibilities, one is our superhard nanocomposites where the 3-4 nm size TiN nanoparticles are imbedded in an Si3N4-like thin interfacial layer. See my recent invited review in J. Vac. Sci. Technol. A 31(2013) 050822. If you wan't a reprint, e-mail me at [email protected].

TiN is widely being used on wear surfaces like cutting tools to enhance life of cutting tools / wear surfaces. A coating of 1-4 microns are applied on the substrate in a vacuum chamber by vaporising titanium directly from solid metal( high purity) to vapor stage (ion) & allowed to react with nitrogen, the high potential difference between substrate & cathode (Titanium rod) attracts the ttitanium ions on the substrate,where it reacts with nitrogen & forms TiN. In india there are a few companies who does it commercially prominent among them being Balzers.
Can also be used as Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells, Electrochemical Energy Storage, Improved Hydrogen Storage, catalysis etc

TiN can be used as a diffusion barrier layer in the microelectronics as well as solar cell fabrication process.
Titanium nitride is an super hard material, often used as a coating on titanium alloys, steel, carbide, and aluminium components to improve the substrate's surface properties.
