My opinion is that Iraq lies in the region of highest sun radiation, so it can be a good candidate for generating electricity either by the photovoltaic generators or solar thermal generators. The technological advancement in photovoltaic is satisfactory such they may dominate the solar energy conversion. I think Iraq can build its photovoltaic technology based on silicon solar cells with the help of China which is one of the leaders of this technology and advanced the technology for low price competing to the generation from fossil fuels.
One has to the richness in oil must be driving to find alternative renewable sources for it as oil will be depleted. I think the people are aware with the problem but they have social and political will for finding solutions before it becomes late.

Yes, of course, Iraq is in the region with the highest sun radiation, and all of these solutions are possible, but I think that the biggest challenge facing Iraq to achieve this goal is corruption.

I think it could be good to conduct a study or review the existing literature if any in Irak on the performance of either solar photovoltaic or system or the thermal in Irak in order to asses the potential of the solar energy in Irak. For example, many factors such as the temperature, relative humidity, solar irradiation, wind speed, and dust accumulation could influence the performance of solar.
According to my knowledge Iraq does not has a chance in the feild of wind energy except the north region in IRAQ because of the low wind speed as yoy know.
Regrding the solar energy .Yes we do have such a chance..but the governments absence of careful planning for the future of iraq is the main obstacles..Regards
