This is also a question of discipline and tradition in the university. Medicine has used the tradition of adding many authors where other fields just acknowledge some minor contributions.

If the paper is about consensus , criteria or practice guidelines it usually is authored by several authors as well as large multicentric studies. Each author has equal importance.

In many new papers several authors also collectively author in the name of a study group, consortium or polymath etc..

So it differs from type of study and research. And many times , good studies are not possible as single author. Thus having an impactful practice changing aspect of the study should receive more importance.

in general, the team works or groups it's the best choice to do a great researches and that's works will be easily to publish in a first class journals.

I have to be sincere: often I find, at least in my Italian experience, multi author article are metoo article, where the authorship is given as a reward for unknown reasons. It s true that sometime, like in medicine, gathering data need a lot of people. But sometime the authors are more than the patients studied in the work! In any case Mendel or Watson and Crick did nt need so much help.

I think, a group work is always better than a work of one person.

I think the quality of the work does not depent on the number of researcher.

I believe multiple author papers are much better than single author articles because there is moderation of ideas in multiple author papers. There is a possibility of extremist ideas creeping into a single author article and moderation is only done by reviewers and editors

Team work is the most important for any research

In single-authored articles, one thing is beyond doubt - you did all the work. Oh, alright, you might have had (and acknowledged) help from from a research assistant or two, but basically its you alone. With co-authored work, you may also have done most of the work, but there’s always the possibility you did next to none or that there’s great swathes of the finished article you don’t know anything about. And who’s to know, despite your protestations to the contrary? Your coauthors may also have a different view at the time or in hindsight. But it does show that (technically) you can work with others in a research team.

In terms of lines on your CV, unweighted citations, etc. it won’t make any difference. If your affiliated institution, national funding body, etc. weights by authors, and many citation metrics do, you’re going to have to share the glory, incl. perhaps the money and career payoffs. If you’ve coauthored on works with more than two authors, the benefit obviously drops off progressively, and are eventually zero (sooner in some disciplines than others). But on the plus side, many hands make light work.

There’s a need for balance. With coauthored works, potentially more publications through sharing the load and taking advantage of each author’s comparative advantage. But depending on the circumstances you may have to share (some of) the benefits. Single-authorship implies more effort, but you don’t share the pluses. Overall, it’s generally good not to be seen as someone who only works alone (in the absence of mitigating circumstances) or who can only work with others, but I’d tend to err mostly against the latter.

Typically, I look for topics and quality not the number of authors.

I did not think number of authors is a parameter to judge quality of paper. Main thing is content of the paper and deifinately the writing style. Because some time author has both novelty and content but is unable to deliver it completely.

The quality of the research is more important than the number of authors, as stated by others.

The methodology, design, collection of data without confounding factors, sample size, analysis and conclusions are all far more important than the number of authors.

More authors who contribute to the publication obviously reduce the workload that is spread around, rather than a single author having a lot more input.

A lot of research is done in a team setting, therefore the model of multiple authors dominates the publication environment currently.

It depends on the number of people who participated in the study and whether they qualify to be authors (as recommended by many journals). The most important component in my view is that the quality and content of the publication that matter more. In addition, the academic rigor in the process of obtaining data, its analysis and presentation are very crucial in the quality of the paper. In most cases however, large studies are usually not conducted singly but rather as teams who normally contribute to the depth of the study. In most cases therefore, most big studies are conducted by many people who should ordinarily qualify as authors
