Current surveillance, vector control, and public health practices may be inadequate to deal with the potentially aggressive expansion of this disease, especially with warming climate and changes in hydrologic factors. We need simple but strong advice to share with policy makers.
Vector control is important, and adequate plan of education about this. Avoid collect water in tanks without caps and use of insecticides. In Mexico this is working, but control is very difficult.
Engaging and empowering the community / households to implement household larval management will complement the insecticide based adult control. This however will require a well planned awareness of where and how the vector breed, rest, and what type of containers they like to breed most. Formal program control alone is difficult.
