EDAX and XPS are the surface analysis technique. they are not a good method to calculate the Pd % in composites of Polymer.

I think, you can solve the polymer, and measure the Pd content by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

For my opinion digestion of your sample in HNO3/H2O2 (medium is polymer-dependent, we prefer MW-induced digestion) and determination of the dissolved sample via AAS and ICP, resp. is one method of choice. The amount of Pd in your material is calculated on the basis of determined data concerning the digested amount of original sample.

Another possibility for determination is X-ray fluorescence of the as-received material.

Dear Raj Kumar,Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) (heating cycle should be performed in air) could give you the % Pd present in the polymer. EDX Analysis may also help.

The EDAX and XPS will give the qualitative information regarding the elements present in your composite not the quantitative information. I think the ICP-OES measurement will give you the complete information to calculate the percentage of Pd present in your composite.

Question: Are the Pd particles fully embedded in the ploymer matrix? What is the porosity of the matrix? Are Pd particle surfaces accessible for e.g. gas reaction?

What is the nature of polymer you use?

ICP analysis could estimate the % of Pd and other common matels.

If only if the Pd particles are all accessible to hydrogen gas, via permeation, since low temperature PdH0.80 exhibits superconducting properties down to 11 K,  this could be a way (not direct, indeed) for quantifying the Pd density...

The simples is TGA. Just burn whatever is organic and calculate the residual mass which should be pure Pd.

The simplest method is TGA that has been mentioned by Antoni Sanchez-Ferrer.

I agree, TGA is the simplest, the fastest the cheapest.

Burn please a similar mass of PURE polymer and verify please if to the resulting residue, if any ?? corresponds exactly a NULL mass!

Please try to do the Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)  which is capable of detecting metals and several non-metals at concentrations as low as part per quadrillion, ppq level.
