In mechanical engineering, a bistable structure is one that has two stable mechanical shapes, particularly where they are stabilized by different curvature axes. (Source: Wikipedia)
I want to know what are bistable structures mainly made of?
Using laminated composites is one of the best methods to engineer bistability in lightweight structures. You can control for the fibre and matrix, the fibre angles and layup in order to not only achieve bistability, but other mechanical properties that may be of interest such as low-CTE, E11, E22, G12, natural frequency, etc.
