A change in the safety standard that restricted the use of collaborative robots (COBOTS) without locking opened a great prospect for increased productivity and safety, improving aspects of ergonomics through the use of these robots.

As far as I am aware the main application is currently within the automotive industry. The health sector is also a very good candidate.

Manufacturing companies continue to lead the way in the use of cobots. These include in particular the automotive and electrical industries. Examples are the insertion of sound insulation in car doors or when robot arms moving on rollers pull heavy workpieces for human colleagues or tighten screws overhead. Meanwhile, Cobots react to gestures or learn whole movement sequences, which humans show them. In this sense, also industrial robots experience kind of a "humanization" that not only promotes mutual understanding, but also emotional acceptance and trust as the basis for good cooperation.
A review of the German-language application-oriented publications on the topic (technical articles, press releases, etc.) has shown that only a few genuine collaborative applications are mentioned. Often existing robots are replaced by CoBots, which saves production space. Positive examples can be found in the automotive industry (e.g. Ford, BMW).
