I'm working on a new type of controller that can substitute the classical controllers such as LQR (linear quadratic regulator). Hence, I want to know more about the disadvantages of a LQR so I can point them in my research project and compare my results with a LQR results.
Therefore, I'm asking what are the drawback of a LQR regulator and what are it advantages ?

one big disadvantage of LQR is that for each earthquake, there exists an optimum value of Q and R at which best reductions in responses is obtained. Hence adjustment of Q and R is one such disadvantage.

suppose that we scale all the earthquakes to a single PGA, will the optimum value change ? or it will be the same ?

I think it will change because apart from PGA there are many other factors on which earthquake characteristics depend like it's PSDF curve, site to source distance. Infact, when u change the structure, Q and R changes. Q and R are very sensitive variables. Handle them carefully.

The main disadvantage of LQR is that it requests a good knowledge about the state of the problem which is not always possible. Other thg as Dr. Vishisht mentioned the weight matrices R and Q have significant effect on the reliability of the controller so it must be adjusted for any further changes in the whole prob state.

Unqualified comment: Inherent intelligence of the system to accommodate energy is important. The issue of magnitude of expected energies ( for consequent response and directionality), and if required, to attain any damping, dynamic depth measure (in motion/displacement sense) is also important.

However, the most problem with LQR is that, it is useful for linear systems, and if you're going to control a complex or nonlinear structure, it is not effective anymore.
