First of all, I am looking for chlorophyll a and b, also carotenoides. Generally single species culture is highly needed to check various biochemical properties of algae. Here, I do not have single species culture as sample is collected from natural environment. Please suggest some reference about biochemical or molecular estimation from mixed algal concentrate.
Soma - what are you trying to understand about this mixed algal concentrate? If you are trying to monitor change over time you could run a molecular bar code type PCR (with a universal primer set) on extracted DNA and then run a gel and get a pattern on a gel. It would have a lot of different bands but act as a fingerprint of what is there. But would not give you particular species present. What are you trying to get from these experiments?
what do you want to tel about algal concentrates, , do you want to estimate photosynthetic pigments of alga individually or from mix culture. can you please clarify your objective

I suggest you the book: "Phytoplankton Pigments" (Suzanne Roy, Carole A. Llewellyn, Einar Skarstad Egeland and Geir Johnsen (eds.), Cambridge University Press 2011. Here you find various articles and tables about pigment composition of different algae classes as well as specific examples for individual species, protocols for extraction of pigments or the references for this, extinction coefficient in several extraction solvents and so on. This should help you a lot!
