We have been facing recurring fungal infections in our mouse fibroblast cultures and hence in stem cells that we thaw onto the MEF cells. I have tried decontaminating the incubator, clean the hood, use fresh media, PBS and wipe everything with 70%EtOH before entering the hood. But the infection keeps coming back time and again.

Is there any way I could catch the infection before it spreads (which might already be the case sadly)? Does use of UV light in the hood really help? I am seeing small strand-like things in the culture, but I'm unsure of its nature. What are the signs to look for-for such types of infections? Methods to prevent, detect? Please share your views/ experiences/ suggestions..

Thank you.

Cheers.
