Most of the previous researches focus on city level (i.e. Beijing or Guangzhou ), using remote sing images to obtain land information and landscape metrics to analyse the changing patterns. Some of previous researches focus on discovering the changing progress in different regions and then compare them. Some of them focus on methodology innovation such as information extraction or putting forward new landscape metrics.
However research at Megalopolis level is less than at city level. What are the differences in scientific problem, method and theory between researches at city level and researches at Megalopolis level? Doing research at Megalopolis level , what (or which aspect) should we pay more attention to than at city level?
Could anyone give me some tips?
From my standpoint I think the theory and scientific problems are the same, however, when we are focusing the light on city-level the sprawl as well as the urbanization are more vividly than the megalopolis which might be is very tiny to identify. thats why my tips to you is to take in your consideration very small scale within the megalopolis to identify the differences or we could call it mini-area development which is located within megalopolis.
Thanks Fakhri , your suggestion is good. Do your mean that I should forcus on part area of a megalopolis to illustrate the urbanization process? In other words, should I use the rules derived from part area to illustrate the whole of a megalopolis?
Furthermore, the research method and process on single city is similar. And most of these researches focused on single city, so these research process is mature. However, in recent decades the megalopolis is the new urbanization type in the world.. So we should research the rules in megalopolis, especially the rules could not be found in single city.( if these rules exist )
So when we want to discover the rules in megalopolis, what or which aspects should we pay more attention.
In fact, what I meant indeed is to focus in different parts, I mean to take many samples in the megalopolis, and taking all of these samples should subjected to the rules of statistic, for a very simple reason one part doesn't represent the result of sprawl in the megalopolis.
Thank you Fakhri again. Your advice is that we should divide the whole megalopolis into many subregion, then we research the rules in these subregion. Yes, that's a good idea! However, another question maybe we have to face with is that how to divede the megalopolis? If we could not provide strong evidence about how to divide the megalopolis, our research results maybe questined. Someone could say that we get the results maybe just by accident. Do you have any idea about that?
