I am using CONTACT 173 and Target 170 for the 3D contact surfaces. In many researches i have studied that, coefficient of friction , contact cohesion and contact opening stiffness governs the mohr coulomb criterion. Are these parameters enough to model the interfaces in the simplified micro modelling of masonry wall??
The Mohr-Coulomb criterion is usually adopted to model the sliding failure on frictional interfaces. If using a discrete element analysis, more appropriate to model block masonry structures, the parameters of friction coefficient and cohesion are considered enough to calculate the load factors and failure modes by means of limit analysis. In this case a rigid-perfectly plastic model with dry contact interfaces governed by Coulomb failure criterion can be assumed for masonry walls and macro/micro modeling approaches can be adopted.
However, crucial to the limit analysis of 3D dry-jointed masonry block structures is a proper description of the constitutive laws that govern the frictional contact behavior (e.g. under simultaneous shear forces, torsion and bending moments) and the treatment of non-standard material (non-associated flow rules).
