Some of medical practitioners have serious concerns' over the rights of nurses to prescribe complex medicines. What are the concerns over rights of nurses to prescribe these drugs?
All about these types of issues are related to patient safety. In order to expand our professionalism (nursing science), we need to persuade the public as well as the medicine science community to be willing to allow nurse practitioners to prescribe drugs required to the patients. I think that a rigorous, well-developed education program and certification process/management are demanded, which should also be approved by a committee composed of the public, medicine science community, and nurse science community.
The prescription of prescription drugs is for reasons of patient safety and liability a task reserved for licensed physicians. A PhD or another academic degree is not a substitute for a physician´s license.
I respect to your medical rules. but I think in emergency conditions, a MSc or PhD in midwifery or nursing should be able to periscribe some limited drugs after being educated. This problem have been solved in England or other common wealth countries.
In an emergency, it is important to first properly position the patient and determine the vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, oxygen saturation, depending on the situation). It is rarely necessary to give a prescription drug immediately, possibly an over-the-counter remedy, and not at all necessary for a non-physician to prescribe prescription medication. If the patient does not need to go to a hospital anyway, the family doctor, who is responsible for any prescriptions, should be contacted, and he should take care of the follow-up.
